PostSubject: Work in Progress: Advanced RP Crafting System   2014-04-14, 6:37 am

This is a partially formed concept with rough numbers and sketching outs.
I plan to work on this idea to flesh it out, get more specifics in on it, add in details for some of the already listed(but yet to be worked on) crafts, and later hopefully add in additional crafts to expand possibilities for players to act upon.

So here's the idea. And please don't be too scrutinous on the numbers. Not yet.
To start it's just opinions I want. (Possible suggestions) and if anyone likes the idea enough to decide they want to offer their assistance to see it see the light of completion, then feel free to volunteer and we can discuss, work on different area's, compare and discuss more. Smile

Quote :
This is a proposition to integrate crafting, inventing and skill tree's into a single advanced, and detailed, system.

Each craft would require certain related stats to be able to master, following similar(or the same) requirements as combat trees.

eg.
Str/Con - Mining/Prospecting(both ores and gems)
Str/Con - Metal Smithing - Weapons/Tools
Str/Con - Metal Smithing - Armour/Shields
Dex - Hunting/Tracking
Dex - Hide crafting/tanning
Str/Dex - Tailoring
Str/Dex - Bowyer
Con - Self Mutation/Bodily manipulation
Wis - Holy Enchantment
Int/wis - Potion Making
Int/wis - Staff/Wand Crafting
Int - Technological inventions
Int/Dex - Gem Cutting
Int/Cha - Magical enhancement/enchanter
Cha - Energy storage/regenerative inventions

The current tree system goes along the lines of 5/4/3 Combat tree's.

I propose keeping this tree system for combat techniques and adding on top of it.
In simpler points:
~Everyone gets 1 free craft tree on top of their combat trees. (5C/5/4/3 ~ Where C = Craft Tree).
~Additional craft tree's may be bought (up to 2 additional trees)
~Alternatively, combat trees may be turned into craft trees (suffering a drop in combat tech abilities to gain more crafting trees, eg. 5C/5C/4/3 or 5C/5/4C/3, where C = Craft Tree)
~Can only Master up to 2 crafts (R5 in 2 crafting trees)
~The maximum Craft tree's one character may have is 4. (5/5/3/2, 5/4/4/2, 4/4/4/3)

Advancing in a craft from each rank would require a learning roll similar to learning a technique. (ie. advancing from Rank 1 Crafting tree to Rank 2 crafting tree requires ## DC, with a minimum requirement of ## STAT ) As well as RP effort (be it on forums or in game) which increases in requirement as the ranks go up. (Rank 5 would require considerable RP effort to acquire as it's becoming a grand master of a particular craft and unlocking the most powerful items/enchantments/etc from their craft, to them)

Each different type of crafting will require particular 'ingredients' to create certain items. (Metal crafting will require the required metal, tools, and perhaps other ingredients that may be required to stoke the fires in the particular way required to temper the metal. Enchanters would require all sorts of odd components to imbue the magical properties into the object(weapon/armour/etc)

~As a way of expanding their craft, instead of submitting a fully crafted weapon (as example) for approval to be made the crafter submits a new recipe/formula. (eg. A new metal, or a new enchantment) that is being devised, using certain materials to try and concoct the new formula.
~Then with that formula created ( A recipe, as it were), the crafter can then try and seek out more resources to make use of it.
(Perhaps requiring the actual use(loss) of resources they need to create the recipe, to make each creation attempt)

ie. If they try to make a new rare metal combination. They will have to obtain all of the required resources for each attempt to create it. Paying the resources instead of tokens (and perhaps some tokens for the initial approval of the recipe)

As a matter of balance. Armour DR bonuses would 'not' stack with DR from powers.

Working with the Metals that are currently in the Lore database (as well as a couple of more base and very common metals (ie Iron and Steel) ) i've drawn up a basic idea for armour crafting, and how the metals and armour types work together.

No takers on helping to work on this? No opinions good or bad? No abuse to throw my way? ( Razz )
(i'm going to rework the numbers on the armour example I posted up entirely when I finally procure the time. The whole general system for armour, in fact)
Haven't been able to work on it at all lately due to RL taking up my time. Doing Job interviews while preparing an entire household to move out in a couple of weeks really takes up a lot of time. lol.

At the very least, Opinions and suggestions would be lurvely. :3
